One is slightly bigger than the other. I named the bigger one Percy, and the smaller one Nico (yeah, kind of a Percy Jackson fan.)
Nico seems to like following Percy around, I guess because since Percy is bigger, Nico must think he's the leader or something. I love them so much. Their favorite activities include swimming in and out of their plastic rock hide out thing, and chasing a laser light.

Black Lionfish ~ Red Firefish

Ladies and Gents I'm new to this site, and while surfing it, ran into this comment:

Just took back my medium/small lion. I was very aware that it'd eat anything it could fit in its mouth. What I didn't realize is just how big a fish that was. It will easlily swallow a fish a third its size, sometimes bigger. If the fish is too long to swallow right away, it will sit around with the fish's tale sticking out of its mouth until it can make room in it's belly. I also thought I could distract my lion by feeding it a large silverside just before I added a Diamond Goby that was borderline too small for my tank. Had no effect on my Lion's appetite. Went hunting immediately and had swallowed him by the next day. His stomach was so big that he didn't move for two days. I reluctantly decided to take him back to allow for smaller fish. If you don't mind having a size limit for fish in your tank, this is an awesome fish, and was one of my favorites until it started eating expensive fish. Keep in mind they grow extremely large, and fast if fed well. Also, don't feed feeder goldfish. They don't have the nutrition needed and can sometimes choke your lion.

Response:

Now I have a beautiful Red Volitan Lionfish about 10in or so in lenght I have him with a 24in or so Dragon Eel a 15in or so Bamboo Banded Shark and an 6in Silver Snapper So far all is well I have 175gl Tank and he has not eaten or had any issues with the fishes in the tank; matter of fact he can be hand fed and he is quite tame, I'm guessing the person that wrote about his Lion eating huge fish might be a little far-fetched I mean they are known to be predators or what not but eating fishes 1/3 thier size is hard to believe with that said

Thank you.

Black/Blue Velvet Damsel ~ Javanese Damsel - Jewel Damsel ~ Bluebanded Damselfish

Sucker I know.... He is about 4" in size now and very protective of the two clowns he came with. He put the maroon clown I had already had in his place (who was known as Hitler reason implied). Hitler no longer gives me any trouble, however this Damsel from hell...aka Demonfish is much worse. The rearranging of the substrate and rocks is nothing compared to the fact that I have 4 fish in a 75 gallon reef tank. I can't add anything...crabs, snails, fish...nada. He terrorizes and destroys all that touches the water. Today...was the kicker, I was checking the status of a newly added snail, since he hadn't moved in three days, and I was bitten by this Demon fish on my forearm, and it was not a love tap like my clowns have done. He was pissed enough to break the skin. This fish is nuts, I have thought many times of what I could buy that was bigger and meaner that would eat him! Hmmmm Now mind you aside from his destruction he has his cute moments, he plays with the cats, interactively, chases their tales, taunts them, will follow your finger along the glass, and eat from your hand. But Truly not the fish I would recommend for everyone.
Karen

Black Ghost Knife Fish

To Kyle, I agree that too many people are too quick to tell others they are doing wrong. Your tank sounds fine to me. I had a black ghost knife over ten years ago. He lived for more than 12 years. He grew to about 16 or 17 inches. He was kept in a 55G aquarium. His tank mates at the time were nothing but guppies. And yes it was way beyond the 1 inch rule. As far as the 1 inch rule I too am old school. I knew about keeping bacteria in the filter, water changes, and Ph. 20 or so years ago that is all I cared about or knew about. I must have done something right to keep my ghost for more than twelve years. He also made an 18 hour drive from NC to IN. With that limited knowledge, "back in the day", I managed to keep Tiger Barbs with a breeding pair of angels, (lots of store credit). I still get upset when a fish dies as I am sure you do to. My four year old son is in charge of the flushing as I have taught him that "FISH DIE". I really enjoy the ones that read about the 1 inch rule and then explain that they have more than one BGK. I have read that you should not do this. Although, that is exactly my plan. I am hoping to gather info on the BGK and breed them. It is just a goal I have set. I have a room in the basement that is dedicated for this purpose. I have built aqua bridges to connect all my tanks together. Each tank is set up a little different. I am currently stationed in germany with the army. The water here has a Ph of about 7.8... higher than I prefer but it is what it is. I would love to find out more about your set up. If it is listed on this site give me time to find it as I am new here. Hope to hear from you and any other BGK keepers.

It just has snuffles which is when a rabbits nose is runny or wet and they sneeze, will pass evenily. I am into 4-h rabbits and have menny rabbits at home. Don't worry, your rabbit will be fine and your last rabbit that had diarrhea did not have to be put down. My rabbit spunky got diarrhea 5 times because he kept eating to much apple.
Sabrina

BIG mistake on my part for not observing them for awhile before buying. I'm not sure what sex they are, but one is a darker orange then the other one. Yesterday, I noticed the darker one chasing and nipping at the other lighter one, both gouramis are about equal size as well. Anyways the other one would go and hide, or not move at all at the bottom of the tank. Anyways, this morning, the lighter one was dead. I'll have to wait and see if the darker one goes after any of the other fish, so far it hasn't.
Raymond

For some reason I had an intention to name or call him Guppy. So of course I did, to find that (I'm age nine) I had no money to afford food for him for the few next days once I stepped out of Wal-mart. They were treating them pretty bad there. There, was three green spotted puffer fish left with three eels and a skinny, white, red-eyed, dead gold fish stuck to the filter. I studied the puffer fish. I saw one dead, another laying on a green plant with no spots, and the other one happily foaming the open area in the tank. I picked the energetic one. The worker didn't know much about puffers. He simply scooped it up with the net, brought it to the counter, wrote a bunch of numbers on it, puffed air into the bag with his mouth, tied it, and then handed it to me. He didn't tell me if it was a girl or boy (I decided it was a boy), whether I should put it in a tank or bowl, or when the bag will run out of air. I kept it for saturday, sunday, and half of monday without food. Eventually, we visited another wal-mart. Shrimp food today, he is peacefully in the tank after we removed the betta because of its actions.
Daleena

I had an Alligator Snapper too but, maybe just that specific one, was not really active. It would only come out in the middle of the night, I would have to sneak up on it with a flashlight. I have one now thats around 3" and have it in a 20Long gallon aquarium and will get 125 gallon by summertime. I came across a website that had Snappers I have never seen before they're called Hypomelanistic. Does anyone know where these are found or are they privately breeded?
leo

Black Ghost Knife Fish

Hi, Well I have two black ghost knife fish at the moment. I must say they are awesome and very amusing to watch. My first BGK fish is about 9 inches, I bought him when he was just over 2 inches about 9 months ago. He lives in a 42 gallon tank with lots of plants and drift wood, eventually will be moving him to a 6ft tank, but for now he lives with a bunch of kuhli loaches, a pleco, a whiptail and a whole lot of cherry shrimp, all of which he leaves alone. He loves bloodworms and all other live/frozen food which I give as a treat, but he mainly eats sinking carnivore pellets. He will come out at any time during the day or night. My second BGK fish is currently living in my discus tank, she is only 3 inches and eats anything mainly carnivore sinking tablets and flake food. She is living with 3 breeding discus pairs and always leaves the eggs alone. She mainly comes out at night as she is only new. I've had her for maybe 2 months now, but she is getting more adventurous. She will also move to another tank in the future. In conclusion the Black ghost knife fish are awesome fish to keep. They are the first fish I have had. So as long as your willing to do the research I do not think experience plays a big roll in keeping them.
Taryn
