In fact he may become very attached to you. He will start to bond with you more and more. I just had one he was the most wonderful friend and family I could have ever wished for!! He trained me to get him glasses of water and loved dinner time he was always curious and wanted to sample almost everything he loved cherries and grapes only I had to hold them for him while he sipped them up slowly!
I think you will be pleasently surprised by having one bird you will really see his personality like you would never have before.
susan

Sun Conure

Conures are extremely social beings in the wild and in the home. The 'scream' to make sure that all their flock is 'OK'. Unfortunately for you - all you humans are the flock. Usually, all you have to do is respond back. Hey OK or whatever you wish to see. Be right back. If you think of the conure as a 3 year old feathered child, it will get easier. If you leave a 3 year old in the kitchen by themselves and DISSAPEAR - panic ensues - that is what this little guy is seeing. Much of it he will outgrow as soon as he realizes that you leave and come back. Much of it, you will have to respond to by 'hey I'm here' and most of it you will get through training. Conures don't normally just yell. They are expressive. Maybe they want their head pet, maybe they want on your shoulder - they are velcro birds and need to be a part of the family. You will find that they can essentially be loose in the home and will return to cage or perch to potty. They just want to be with you. As soon as you learn to obey and to reasure your little guy that you haven't abondoned him and he gets a little closer to a year old - it will settle. I do not clip my conures wings as I have found over the years they just love to go from person to person for attention and will fly to all members of the family. Much disagreement on whether to clip or not. I have never had a problem without clipping a birds wings but I had one die because she wanted to come to me and fell and broke her back. So my birds are free flight but all except the conures walk. They climb down and walk. The conures fly to all memebers of the home and then settle.
Charlie Roche

Red and Yellow Macaw, Bolivian Scarlet, Red Macaw

Had another thought. Possibly your scarlet screaming and going to the vet don't have anything to do with each other. I have a macaw and her cage was in the livingroom and perch also. One day I was using the desk and just moved the desk chair but didn't put it back. My macaw went nuts. I had no idea why or what was happening. I finally - after 2 days used the chair and had moved it back. For some reason this macaw was terrified of the chair. I have had birds terrified of mens hats or red hair or a scarf on a mirror. Is there anything that is different around your Scarlet that possibly she could be afraid of?
Charlie Roche

They just like cozy and prefer a nest/basket something to sleep in. I think most birds will pull up paper. Just fun to do. I feel your pain, my Dutch Blue died last week after our 17 year friendship. We are all devastated as are my other birds who seem to be in mourning. My African Gray would always call out for our little Bing when she wasn't in sight but hasn't uttered her name since she passed over the rainbow. I haven't removed the cage from the bird room yet for fear of the reaction of the others, including me. I loved that bird dearly and miss her terribly, what a personality!
