Budgerigars - Parakeets

We have six beautiful and cheerful little baby honey birds here in the house, and one of them is ziggy, who is my husband's favorite because it has been with him for a long time. For the last two years, ziggy has been suffering from organ failure (according to the vet) because still his belly gets bigger or bulky. The doctor needs to excrete the excess fluid from his body and we maitain the medicine that he has to take everyday. We wanted to know exactly the main reason of the problem, to cure it, and prevent of losing her. Even my husband spent a lot already, but he is still willing to do everything to keep our little ziggy with us.
LIZIEL COOK

View the full article

Alexandrine Parakeet

He is part mine and my husbands family. He is my shadow following me everywhere around the house. We clipped his wings when he was younger but they grew back and we noticed that he was flying around a lot more in the house. Yesterday he flew out of my husband's hands when he was bringing him inside and we haven't found him yet. I do hope that he is ok and that he can find his way home as this has upset us very much. We love and adore him as he does and I can't understand why he would do this.
Antonella

View the full article

Alexandrine Parakeet

We live in Brisbane and we bought our Alexandrine (Honey Girl) when she was 3 months old from a pet shop. I am the main carer. I am home all day with her, I feed her and clean her cage. She is out of the cage when we are home. I am so dissappointed as she seems to hate me. She attacks me everytime I put food in her cage. If she is on top of her cage and I go near her she skittles back into her cage. Yet she loves my husband. He is away all day and when he comes home she gets all excited. She runs to him when he goes near the cage. Jumps on his shoulder and nibbles affectionately at his ears and hair, chatters to him... grrrrr. I bought her for me!
Helen

View the full article

About a month ago he got quiet and I noticed that he was sick. It cost some money to get help for him. Well, he is 2years old just coming into puberty. He got a sore on his, I'll say his bum bum. He stayed out a lot for exersize and he had a stuffed monky that he loved to play with. Well short story, he rubbed that monkey the wrong way and hurt him self. I took the monkey away, but I am the main attraction now. It took antibiotics and inflamation meds to clear his condition. I didn't know things like this could happen. My birds name is Fred. He talks just about all the time, I taught him everything he says, and he loves fresh fruit and veggies. He also loves people food. That is important for him, and he loves to ride around on my shoulder. Thanks, Necia
arnecia russell

View the full article

Alexandrine Parakeet

We have 3 Alexandrines at the moment, 2 females and a male in the same 3 metre by 3 metre aviary. We also had 2 young, about 6 months in another cage, but they both died very suddenly within a week of each other. We keep the aviary very clean by brushing and hosing the concrete floor every other day to minimize any problems.
One of the females is rather aggressive towards the male so we may put her in another cage and see if the male and remaining female will mate.
The male is named Poh Jah which means Father in Thai. He is very tame and loves to kiss and be stroked. They love to eat the very hot Thai chillies and leaves of certain trees in our garden. They have 2 large nest boxes mounted high in the aviary and they have been using them now for about 6 months. We have a fishpond and waterfall in the aviary to give our birds some extra water supply if needed. As soon as I go into the aviary, at least 1 bird will fly to my head or shoulder and proceed to nibble at my ear or neck chain.
1 bird has flown away twice but has come back both times.
steve

View the full article

Golden Yellow-naped Amazon

We have had a yellow nape, Salty, for 28 years, ever since he was a baby. He has gotten very mean over the last few years. I am the one he loves, and yet, now when I'm petting him, he pretends to like it and then, all of a sudden, he bites me horribly. He has also discovered that we get very annoyed when he makes a certain sound at regular intervals over a long period of time, so he loves to do that. Recently, when I let him out of his cage, he attacked our dog, and they got in a big fight with no one hurt. He also chases my husband when he's out of the cage, which is pretty funny! Basically tho, no one can stand him, and we don't know what to do with him. My husband called a parrot haven, and they said they don't take yellow napes. Also, I'm told he won't do well in a new environment. We don't want him to suffer, and we don't know what to do!!
Suzy Wiberg

View the full article

Jandaya Conure, Yellow-headed Conure

Its name is Graceful. It was the name given by the caretaker at the pet store, but we decided to keep it because it describes its personality. Today we are taking Graceful to its first veterinary appt hopefully we'll find its gender later. Graceful is clownish, cuddly, brattish at times, but lots of fun. It is beginning to learn a few words, it tries them at night before going to sleep. Graceful is also a very picky eater. We have not been able to feed him fruit and veggies. Grace does love bean sprouts, dehydrated mango, papaya bits and shredded carrot, but it feeds mostly on pellets. We are trying to add more variety to its diet. Ah, its day is not complete without a bath. Lately, it likes to dunk pellets in its water dish after the bath, and prefers balsa wood toys to chew/destroy. It hisses and gets aggresive with a platic ball with a rattle we don't know why though. What is most amazing is that it has never been exposed to that kind of toy before. We wonder what it reminded it of, or what danger Graceful associates it with.
Isabel

View the full article
